De Hoop Nature Reserve- Paradise in The Animal Kingdom

De Hoop Nature Reserve is a destination famous for its spectacular bird colonies and amazing whale breeding ground. More than 260 species have been recorded on the reserve, both residential as well as migratory types. This bird paradise is only 3 hours outside of Cape Town in the Overberg region. The De Hoop Vlei attracts a large amount of water birds which are spectacular to watch in their natural habitat. This quiet, serene area is also a marine conservation area. De Hoop Nature Reserve encompasses the breeding ground for the Southern Right Whale. It is estimated that more than 120 whales return to breed and calf during the winter months and into spring. Watching these whales leaping out of the water and to see them calving their young is amazing. This is the ultimate getaway and the prefect way to wind down and relax and reconnect with the calmness of nature.
