The Breede River Winelands and Route 62

The scenic 'Route 62' is the historical road that passes from Ceres to Worcester and Robertson through the Breede River Valley and the Klein Karoo. It used to be the main link between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town before the N2 Highway was built in 1958. This scenic route has been rediscovered, and serves as a 70 km shorter option between Cape Town and Oudtshoorn. The route passes through 14 beautifully preserved towns and villages where time has stood still for 40 years.

It is one of the most authentic and breathtaking drives in South Africa. All year round the scenery is spectacular, covered in snow in winter and blooming with fruit and indigenous flora in spring and summer, it is a sight to see.

Visit wine farms like the Van Loveren and Robertson Wine Valley. The gorgeous Protea Farm has tractor rides and scrumptious lunches on offer.

Stay at the only original Art Deco hotel in South Africa. Montagu Hotel is old world elegance. Experience a bygone era of elegance and charm with the Art Deco style of the 1930's and the Charleston music of the 1920's. All the bedrooms are decorated in either Art Deco or Victorian style and offer old world charm. Sample traditional cuisine and local wines with Golden Oldies played on a Baby Grand while you sit back and relax. Montagu's fame of the early 19th century was its healing waters.
