Cape Country Routes was started in 1997 by Gert Lubbe, when he had the idea to give guests their own itinerary with their map as a basis, and Route 62 is the spinal cord to which all routes are connected.
Route 62 is a North/South route which is often called the "Kleine Schwester" (Little Sister) to the famous route in the states - Route 66.
Route 62 goes as follows:
- West Coast route - Up the N7 as far as Langebaan and through Malmsbury in Worcester back to the R62.
- The Whale Route - Through Hermanus onto Bredasdorp & L'Agulhas. One can drive along the N2 as far as Mosselbay and rejoin the R62 over Robinson Pass at Oudtshoorn, or drive through Tradouws pass to Barrydale and then join the R62 to Oudtshoorn.
- From Oudtshoorn #1 - a circular drive over the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert, then back to Oudtshoorn through Meirings Poort.
- From Oudtshoorn #2 - choice of driving over Monatgu Pass (gravel road, single lane) to George, or the Outeniqua Pass (tarred road).
- From George - choice of driving back onto R62 to Port Elizabeth via Langkloof, or take the Coastal road which goes through the Tsitsekamma Forest.
Along the way there are many locations where you can stop, and enjoy your surroundings...
All you have to do is choose for yourself, and then maybe change your mind.
YOU have the map, and YOU are planning your holiday.
Have fun with it - GO WILD!!
