Botlierskop's baby Giraffes

DID YOU KNOW...
The average pregnancy for a giraffe is 450 days (15 months) and the little baby is born while the mother is standing up. This means that the little baby, which is born head first, falls almost 2m to the ground and in the process, breaks the umbilical cord.

This is only the start of the ordeal because the little one now has to get to its feet in order to take its first drink of milk, as the mother will not suckle while lying down. The little baby can get to its feet with-in the first 20minutes and will be able to walk and run with-in the first hour of its life.
