Solar energy for De Zeekoe

De Zeekoe supports a national drive to reduce the demand of energy in the country.  This is something close to our hearts.  We try to conserve energy in many ways and we ask our guests to do the same.  We have just fitted solar geysers to the hotel and as soon as the sun shines, all our hot water will run through the solar system.

On another note.......we are glad to let you know, that our furry Meerkat friends are doing well and enjoy performing for their guests in the early mornings when weather permits.

Environmentalists en route around SA on scooters visit De Zeekoe

Great story from De Zeekoe about two environmentalists they recently hosted at the Oudtshoorn Guest Farm, en route around South Africa on a pair of scooters...

Melissa Andrews, a journalist, and Christopher List, a professional photographer, arrived at De Zeekoe Guest Farm on two dust-covered scooters, after discovering our conservation efforts and drive towards social upliftment and sustainability.

On the first leg of their 6-month, 7,500 km journey through all corners of SA on a carbon-neutral scooter safari, the two environmentalists aim to explore, film, photograph and document South Africa's natural beauty, the inspiring environmental projects that aim to conserve this and replenish what's been lost, and share their discoveries with the rest of the world.
They're doing this in support of Food & Trees for Africa, an NGO that aims to put back more than we (as humans) take out, creating food gardens for school kids and low-income communities, planting trees and teaching people to become self-sufficient with permaculture methods. Part of their journey involves visiting and volunteering at numerous projects through South Africa, and documenting their work.

We organised a Meerkat Adventure Tour for them, and advised them to travel over the stunning Swarberg Pass, both activities they thoroughly enjoyed. After going down to the Garden Route, the two are riding back into the Karoo, stopping off at Baviaanskloof and Steytlerville, before heading to Addo Elephant Park and the rest of the Eastern Cape.
Follow their adventures on www.eco-friendly-africa-travel.com, www.facebook.com/EcoFriendlyAfricaTravel, or catch them every second Friday in Cape Times, Top of the Times.
